TOWAMENCIN – In what turned out to be a busy day in North Penn’s quaint turf stadium, the North Penn soccer match with Lansdale Catholic turned out to set the tone for a victorious afternoon on South Valley Forge Rd as the Knights kicked their way past the Crusaders 3-0.   The Knights are now 2-0 while the Crusaders drop to 3-1-1.

Saturated conditions in Crawford Stadium forced the North Penn vs Pennsbury football game over to the turf field and combined with soccer made for a doubleheader and a high noon start for soccer.

The excitement started right away as the Crusaders had possession to start the game but junior Carter Houlihan had different plans, as Houlihan stole the ball as soon as the game’s first whistle blew. He then passed to senior Luke McMahon who found senior teammate Aidan Jerome for the game’s first goal.  The Knights were off to a fast start as all this happened within the first few seconds of the game.

All throughout the first half the Crusaders had trouble just getting the ball onto the North Penn side of the field as the Knights were playing tough defense.

“Our defense held it down and kept complete control of their attack which was really key to the shutout,” McMahon said.

And when the Crusaders did get their few shots off, senior goalie Brett Schwengels was there to keep the ball out of the back of the net.

“We were really organized at the back and the communication from our goalie Brett Schwengels helped us,” Jerome said oft the shutout.

The game remained 1-0 until senior Johnny Norman was able to score after getting the rebound off the post from his initial shot.  That would be the last score of the half as the Knights had a 2-0 score at halftime.

The second half saw more of a balance in possession but only one goal.  And it was déjà vu as Jerome scored off the assist from McMahon.

When describing the chemistry between Jerome and himself, McMahon said, “Aidan and I are best friends on and off the field.  We play club soccer together so we play together year round and have a perfect understanding as to how we each play.”

The score would remain the same for the rest of the game at 3-0.  The Knights will be at home against Central Bucks East on Wednesday at 3:30.
