BASKETBALL- The North Penn Knights fell to Lansdale Catholic on Sunday, February 4th.

LANSDALE- This Sunday afternoon the North Penn Girls Basketball (5-15) faced the Lansdale Catholic Crusaders (15-6) in a cross town rivalry game.

In the Knights’ 46-27 loss, the game started off slow for both teams, as there were multiple turnovers and little scoring. Freshman Alli Lindsay accounted for the Knights’ only points in the first quarter with three. The Crusaders also had a hard time scoring with only three total points in the first as well.

The second quarter started off just as low scoring as the first. However, North Penn began fouling too much, which gave the Crusaders plenty of free throws. With 4:06 left in the second quarter, North Penn built up ten fouls compared to Lansdale Catholic’s four.

The Knights combined for only 4 total points in the second quarter while the Crusaders stepped up their game and scored 10 to increase their lead to 13-7. Shots were simply not falling for the Knights.

“We need to work on everything. Our defense was bad. Our offense was bad. There is not one thing I can say in particular.” explained DeMarteleire.

The trend that was set in the second quarter continued in the third as North Penn continued to foul and LC continued to sink free throws. Many of the Knights key performers found themselves in foul trouble early in the 2nd half.  North Penn also had a hard time holding onto rebounds as they entered the 4th quarter down 31-20.

As Alli Lindsay and sophomore Valerie McGriff fouled out, the Knights appeared to lose further confidence. The Knights continued to produce more of the same level of basketball as they did in the beginning of the game by fouling needlessly and turning the ball over too much.

“We have a whole bench who can step up, and we just need everyone to get their head in the game and finish shots,” said senior Bri Hewlett.

North Penn will host an 18-2 Central Bucks South team this Tuesday at 7:00pm.
