North Penn Boys’ Lacrosse win 17-6 over Pennsbury

TOWAMENCIN – Last Thursday, the Pennsbury Falcons (2-7-0)lacroasse team may have had a fast start, scoring the first goal, but for the rest of the game the North Penn Knights (7-0-0) controlled the ball. After gaining some momentum, the Knights had no trouble finding the back of the net, winning the game 17-6.

“I think today went well. It was definitely a team game today and I think everyone contributed. We played a hard four quarters of lacrosse. We played from the very beginning to the end. We preach all the time about gaining momentum and maintaining momentum for the whole game and I think that we did that today. For all four quarters we maintained momentum and I think we did a really good job,” said Head Coach, Rick Smith.

At the first face-off of the game, Pennsbury gained possession of the ball. With the help of sophomore, defender Jake Nelson and junior, midfielder Eric Diamond, it didn’t take long for the Knights to regain possession, allowing senior Tanner Nelson to put in the first goal. The Falcons shot the ball in to tie the game up quickly. After North Penn gained possession from the face-off, Pennsbury quickly stole the ball back to score another goal. With the goals shot by seniors Reece Udinski, Nick Keim and Nelson, the Knights were able to finish the quarter leading the Falcons 6-2.

“I think the game went well and we came out strong. We didn’t come out flat footed like we usually do. We stayed on the ball the whole game and I think the score reflected that,” said Keim.

In the second quarter, the Knights found a rhythm and started to score after winning every face-off. Within the first minute sophomores Danny Payne and Lucas Vannul scored. Keim and Nelson followed with two more goals as the Knights began to pull away with the lead. The falcons tried to put on some pressure with a few shots on goal, but only one made it to the back of the net. Udinski and senior Erik Laughlin added two more goals to the score, having the Knights finish the half 12-3.

“We stayed composed, took the opportunities that were available and moved the ball under pressure very well. Most importantly we played as a team,” said Nelson.

At the beginning of the 3rd quarter, the Falcons scored two back to back goals. The Knights bounced back quickly with goals by Udinski and senior Mike Kohler to end the quarter 14-5. In the 4th quarter the Knights ended the game strong only letting the Falcons get one more goal, but Kohler,  Bryan Meyers and junior Andrew Kelly all found the back of the net one more time to tack on 3 more points to the score.

“I think the practices have been focused and we’ve been talking about finishing a game. The kids out there are having fun and working hard. I think right now our key to the rest of the season is staying healthy and that’s what we need to do. I think us staying healthy and maintaining our number and depth is really gonna benefit us,” said Coach Smith.
