LANSDALE – Going into Wednesday’s golf match against rival Souderton North Penn knew they were getting a tough opponent. The Big Red shared The Knight’s 6-1 record as well as the number one spot in the conference.Add to that the fact that that two teams tied Tuesday afternoon in a group match against C.B. East, and the table was set for a very even matchup at Pine Crest Country Club.

At the end of the round, Souderton edged out North Penn by two strokes, picking up the 202-204 victory. For the Big Red, Anthony Barr’s shot a 37 lead Souderton to victory. Andrew Lombardo, Joey Shibata, and Matt Pickford each shot a 40, the round low for the Knights.

“Today as a team everybody struggled” said North Penn coach Dave DiValentino. “Every single person made a few mistakes out there that was not typically the way we play.”

A few crucial miscues, such as a wrong ball penalty as well as a handful of errant tee shots proved to be the deciding factor in the match. North Penn also struggled on the greens, where Souderton seemed to excel.

“We just have to focus more” said senior team leader Owen Kelly, who found his way into the top 5 with a 44. “The short game in golf is key and we just have to make every shot count.”

North Penn looks to get back to their winning ways Thursday in a home match against tough conference rival Pennridge.
