HATFIELD – Last night the North Penn Ice Hockey team battled against Council Rock North without their senior captain Matt Stella. The Knights looked to take the win without their leader and against a tough team.

The Knights went down 1-0 in the first few minutes in the first period, and it looked like it was going to be a long night for the team. Then a spark of motivation from the fan section gave the Knights a driving force to fight back. The Knights’ Nick Capasso brought the game back to a tie with his 6th goal of the year, and shortly after Jake Heckenberger gave the Knights a lead with his 7th of the season.

The second period was dry and long with not a lot of action from both teams. However, with a few minutes left in the period Christian Ahn slipped one past the Council Rock North goalie, giving the team a two goal lead and a large amount of momentum going into the third.

Tensions grew in the third period as the players got heated and after a few ejections and penalties, the Knights’ Kevin Saylor scored an empty netter as time expired.

“I think it was a great team win. We started off a little slow, but then we picked it up as the game went on,” explained senior assistant captain Jeremy Snyder.

Great team play and a solid goalie performance from John Roberts who saved 29 of the 30 shots helped the Knights secure the win. With this victory, the Knights improve their record to 8-1-1 and still remain atop of their conference.

The Knights face off again tonight against Souderton at 7:20pm.
