Field Hockey Stuns Unbeaten CB South

TOWAMENCIN- On a gloomy Tuesday afternoon defined by torrential downpours, the North Penn girls field hockey team rose above both the inclement weather and their status as underdogs as they battled in the game of a lifetime. Taking on an undefeated 11-0 CB South squad, they defied all odds as they soared to an exhilarating 1-0 victory.

Although the season’s first match against CB South concluded with North Penn falling to a devastating 1-0 loss, the Maidens refused to allow history to repeat itself.  Sophomore Casey O’Donnell got the game started early by scoring mid way through the first half.  Moving forward, O’Donnell and the rest of the Maidens have nothing but optimism.

“Hopefully, this will be a new beginning,” explained O’Donnell, “one with more confidence to overcome our losses and achieve more wins enabling us to make it to play offs.”

In addition to O’Donnell’s goal, The Maidens were empowered by strong defensive efforts from junior goalkeeper Chessa Kownurko who had 10 saves throughout the match, as well as senior Alexa Gable, senior Laura Squicciarini, and junior Juliana Hill. Each of these girls played a crucial role in leading the team to glory.

Like O’Donnell, Head Coach Shannon McCracken was glowing with positivity in reflection of the win.

“Beating CB South was a great feat for this young team since we started the season 0-6,”she said.” “The girls kept working hard at practice, and it paid off because in our last 6 games we are 4-1-1. When we started the season, we were trying to figure out who should play where, trying to put together a team, and now they’re just really coming together which is exciting. The girls were on a mission yesterday against CB South and they were relentless on the field. I’m excited for the next six games.”

Like McCracken said, the Maidens have 6 games remaining in their regular season. They realize there is still much room for improvement, but they also have a very promising outlook as they seek to lock in their spot in the playoffs.
