Knights and Maidens Split in Bowling Action

WILLOW GROVE – Rolling in from a win in their previous match against Pope John Paul II, the Knights Bowling team had a lot of momentum coming in to this afternoon’s matchup against the Upper Dublin Cardinals.

During the first out three played games the Knights clearly had leftover steam from their most recent matchup, defeating the Cardinals 717 – 557. The highest scorer was Rommel Cressman with a 186, though he was a bit lukewarm about the team’s performance.

“We usually bowl better, but I’m pretty sure we’ll win all four. That is my belief; I believe this team can go to Districts.” said Cressman of the first game.

During the second game the Knights improved their score to an 859, again pulling ahead of the Cardinals who scored bowled a 698. When asked about the days events, team captain Bubba Mekel stated that “We’re working hard, but there seems to be a bit of a struggle. We should be doing a lot better; we strive for 1000 points every game.”

In the third game the boys won yet again with a score of 858- 742, still falling short of their 1000 point goal. Similar to game two, Tyler Kriebel was again the highest scorer with 201 points.

The total score was 2534 points for the Knights and 1997 for the Cardinals, giving the Knights a 4 games none win.

The highest scorer of the match was Rommel Cressman with 519 points.

In the girls’ lane, the girls lined up looking very determined and ready for the match partly due to their tie with Pope John Paul II in the previous match. The girls arrived with enthusiasm and began to bowl with fervor; their prospects were looking up.

However by the conclusion of the first game, the Maidens bowling team was down 530 -671, with the highest score coming from Captain Julie Storr with 146 points.

Games two and three showed improvements for the Maidens as their score increased to 594 and 647 respectively, but neither of them were enough for a win against the Cardinals.

“The girls seemed more focused today than at our last match, but it wasn’t enough. Today just wasn’t our day,” Senior Amanda Most said.

About the performance captain Allie Strayer knew, “This match was not our normal bowling, something was just a little off and we’re usually a lot more together.”

With a final score of 1970 to 1771, the Maidens lost the match 4 games to none, but are looking forward as both teams hope to improve this coming Friday January 20th in their home match against Christopher Dock at 3.30.

I’d like to point out the athletic excellence of John Garland. not only is he a star football player but he is one of suburban 1’s top bowlers. just trying to make sure that credit is given where credit is due.
