College Review – Millersville University

College Review - Millersville University

Transformed from tiny Lancaster County Normal School in 1855 to PA’s first state normal teaching school in 1859, Millersville University of Pennsylvania has grown to become a well respected academic institution. Earning a place in U.S. News & World Report’s top 10 public universities in the North, this university combines a rich history with a promising future for its past, present, and prospective students.

Their motto “Seize the Opportunity” accurately describes its atmosphere. This university is one of 14 universities within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. Located three miles from Lancaster City, it is renowned for its beautiful 250 acre campus. A canopy of trees and flowers overlook the core location on campus, “Millersville Lake”, which is a quaint and tranquil pond home to two swans.

From the elegant stained glass windows of the President’s office to the tall buildings of the residence halls, students enjoy a diverse community for living and learning. The Ware Center, Millersville’s Visual and Performing Arts Center, is located in downtown Millersville. The Charles R. and Anita B. Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center at Millersville University is another new facility, officially opening on Friday, October 12, 2012. Construction began on a new library in the summer of 2011 and is expected to be completed during the summer of 2013.

The student population of upwards of 7,000 undergraduate students has many possible ‘opportunities to seize’ in achieving academic success. Containing 55 undergraduate majors and six schools including an Honors College, Millersville offers various majors from science and mathematics, to education, and humanities and social sciences.

Millersville creates an upbeat, exciting, and enjoyable student life. All students have access to free transportation including weekend bussing to downtown Lancaster, local malls, and much more. Students also have access to free sports and exercise classes held in the school’s athletic facilities.

Obtaining an affordable college education is made possible at Millersville. According to 2011-2012 university statistics, 81% of students received financial aid, adding up to $77 million in aid given altogether.

42 students of the 2012 NP graduating class attend Millersville. For any student desiring a top-notch education close to a vibrant and artistic city with historic roots, Millersville is the school for you.
