Opinion: Comedian or politician? It’s ok to laugh

The "Let's Go Brandon" slogan is just one example of how humor has become more prevalent in the business of politics.

Everyone that lives in America knows our president Donald Trump. Whether you love him or hate him it’s hard to admit he’s not funny. He may be one of the amusing presidents in the most unironic fashion. If you think so or not, here are some of his memorable moments and you can decide for yourself.

During a campaign stump speech, Trump briefly went off track when a mosquito entered his vicinity. Trump promptly responded with a conniption and a jab at his opponent Hillary Clinton.

“Ooh there was a mosquito, I don’t want mosquitos around me [slaps the table] I don’t like mosquitoes! I don’t like those mosquitos, I never did. Okay, speaking of mosquitos, hello Hillary how are you doing?”

This feels comical as it was unexpected, and the shade at Clinton being completely out of the blue is humorous.

In another instance during a campaign speech in Georgia, the lights went dim, then suddenly got extremely bright. Trump was visibly shocked by this and started a chant because he wanted the lights off.

“No!! Get those lights off. Off!! Turn ‘em off there too; they’re too bright turn’ em off. Turn ’em off, let’s go ready? [chant style] Turn off the lights! Turn off the lights! Turn off the lights! Turn ‘em off,” Trump exclaimed.

Once again Trump made a swift response when the lights came on which makes you think is he trying to be witty about this or is this ironically his first reaction.

In 2020 during the heat of the pandemic, Dr.Deborah Birx was in the White House briefing room with Trump and the press. Dr. Birx had a comment about an earlier fever she was down with and Trump certainly didn’t miss that.

“Saturday I had a little low grade fever,” Dr.Birx said.

“Uh oh,” Trump said as he threw his hands up and walked away.

Later on Dr.Birx said she had gotten a test, and was negative for Covid. Trump let out a sigh of relief and humorously threw down his shoulders.

Even in the public eye, and in front of numerous colleagues Trump does not let his animated personality fall which makes him so characterized by his humor.

At a rally during the heated 2024 election, when Kamala Harris was endorsed by Beyonce, Trump was quick to touch on that in a comedic way.

“Joe Biden is asleep, Kamala is at a dance party with Beyonce,” Trump said at a 2024 rally.

This was quite the way to phrase that Kamala was endorsed, and Joe Biden wasn’t doing a great job in his opinion. Nonetheless as you read in this article, he is nothing short of a jokester.

During a different rally, Trump had just gotten over the coronavirus, and some studies at the time were proving you’re immune to it after beating it once. Trump follows that up with since he’s immune he will kiss everyone in the crowd at his rally.

“Now they say I’m immune. I feel so powerful. I’ll walk into that audience; I’ll walk in there and kiss everyone in that audience. I’ll kiss the guys and the beautiful women… I’ll just give you a big fat kiss,” Trump said.

A statement like that was definitely an entertaining bit, while also considering it came without warning. Whether you like Trump or not that statement most definitely brought a smirk to faces.

Our president is nothing short of an entertainer, and he has shown that during his many years in the public eye. No matter what side you lean to, if you love him or hate him, there is no shame in admitting he’s pretty funny. It does just leave one final question though, was he born to be a comedian and forced to be a politician?
