No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings.

On October 18th, 7 million Americans participated in the nationwide protest to voice this sole idea: America is not a monarchy; we should not be ruled by a king.

People of different races, ages, and genders carrying banners and signs all arrived at protests across the country to oppose President Donald Trump and his corrupt policies. There were 2,500 movements nationwide that day, making it even larger than the June 14th rally this past year.

People flooded the streets of cities big and small in one of the most enormous protests in history to object ideas presented and supported by the Trump administration. In Manhattan, New York, a quarter of a million people took over the roads, leading to a standstill. In Washington D.C., 200,000 protesters marched to the capitol. Even with the millions of attendees, there was not a single report of violence or arrests the entire day.

The protesters aimed their focus on specific aspects that most affect the lives of citizens. Posters with clever catchphrases were held high and succinct chants rang out from every block.

With the upscale of ICE arrests and the continuity of the government shutdown, many people worry for the future of our country. The protesters figured that if the government won’t make a change, the only option left is to initiate change themselves.

In response to the rallies, President Trump posted an AI generated video to social media of him in a jet with the name “King Trump” plastered on the side, dumping sewage on unsuspecting protesters below. This display of immaturity only further proves the point of the protesters that change needs to occur within the hands of the government.

President Trump has made many controversial decisions already, during his short term as president. In March of 2025, the Trump administration began targeting foreign residents and students in America. This led to the detaining and deportation of thousands of people, foreigners or not. Only a couple months later, in January of 2025, Trump announced that the United States would be leaving WHO (World Health Program). Pulling out of the organization will cut funding for global health issues such as pandemics and distributing vaccines for the citizens of America. These are just two of the numerous rulings Trump plans on enforcing during his presidency.

While these decrees are leading to devastating consequences, at the same time, it is bringing America together. 7 million protesters united on one, singular day. It was a moment that Americans shared in which they could comfort one another, saying, “you are not alone.” 7 million people want to advocate for change. They want to let the world know that not everybody is satisfied with the United States’ leadership and that they will not sit quietly while he tears down the pillars of liberty on which we stand. With the prominent motivation and determination for change that was displayed, it can steer the country to wonder: what else are we capable of?
