Editorial: Where’s Melania?

On the day of President Trump’s inauguration, First Lady Melania Trump drew many comparisons to Jacqueline Kennedy. Although Melania Trump described her position as first lady as a “Once in a lifetime” opportunity, her awkward and cold actions during Trump’s inauguration made her seem that she was not ready for the position.

Melania Trump as the First lady makes her the face of America and all women of the United States. As her campaign, she is facing a major problem that many teens and young adults face. Cyberbullying. During her Campaign speech, she said “We have to find a better way to talk to each other, to disagree with each other, to respect each other”. Despite her dedication to changing the ways of cyberbullying, many people on social media claims that it is ironic that her campaign is about cyberbullying, but her husband is a bully.

Lady Gaga Via twitter says “ @MELANIATRUMP to say u will stand for “anti-bullying” is hypocrisy. Your husband is 1 of the most notorious bullies we have ever witnessed.”

Despite social media’s accusations towards her husband, Melania described Donald Trump as a family man who has “deep love and respect” for “all” Americans. She described the country as becoming too cruel and that no 12 year old boy or girl should be mocked.

In almost a month, Melania Trump has shown herself to be an unpromising First lady. Two weeks after Trump’s inauguration, she vanished from the public. Melania broke decades of tradition because of her decision to live separately from the White House. She also has been the one of the only First Lady’s since the 1800s to refuse to live in the White House. Melania’s stay in the Manhattan has cost twice the NEA’s budget. It has been noted that her stay might cost about $200 million per year.

Also it may seem that Melania does not take her position seriously. By plagiarizing former first lady Michelle Obama’s speech, Melania Trump represents a first lady who is not serious about her position nor prepared. Most of the original speeches Melania Trump has delivered have been short and vague. Although Melania Trump has made promises to help the children of our country and represent women, it seems that she has not been making much of an effort over this first month to changing America.
