Editorial: Extremely Vetting The Donald Trump Presidency

Donald Trump calls his immigration policy extreme vetting. He calls it “extreme, extreme vetting” to be exact. As controversial as it may seem, Trump has his own standards for the type of person that should be allowed to enter America. However, when you sit down and “extremely vet” the Trump presidency, it seems as though Donald himself would not be getting past his wall anytime soon.

The central idea of the extreme vetting is to not allow people into our country that would pose a threat to America or go against American values. Here are some specifics:

  • The Donald Trump campaign said that they do not want to let in people who “may have attitudes about women or attitudes about Christians or gays that would be considered oppressive.” (CNN)
  • He also controversially referred to Mexicans as rapists who we should not bring into the country.
  • One of his biggest reasons for not letting someone into America is the threat of Isis.

Hmm.

Here 4 are reasons why trump would not pass his extreme vetting:

1.He has an attitude towards women that could be considered oppressive

Women all across the nation know how Donald Trump treats women. He makes crude comments about weight and appearance, and is also guilty of mistreating women in inappropriate ways (so inappropriate that they must be alluded to because this is a school newspaper). Trump literally embodies a characteristic of someone whom he would not allow into the country.

2. His VP Mike Pence has public oppressive views on gays

What on Earth could be more oppressive than gay conversion therapy. Trump picked a Vice President that openly advocates for changing someone’s sexuality using questionable measures.

3. Trump could be deemed a rapist if put on trial

Because of the released evidence of him talking about sexually assaulting women, he could be deemed a rapist. Yes, Donald, even though you are not Mexican.

4. He is helping ISIS

Trump does not want people coming into America who are affiliated with ISIS. However, we know ISIS uses footage of Donald himself for recruiting purposes. The fact that Trump’s rhetoric inspires people to join ISIS makes him a threat to America, especially as our President.

As we await the first 100 days of the Trump presidency, no one knows when or how the promised “extreme vetting” will take place. However, when and if it does take place, Trump will be subject to possible deportation by his own standards .
