Walls and Trump and the Pope – oh my

As a champion of the poor and those who has lost their way in life, Pope Francis visits the slums of the World. Not only did his trip to Mexico last week make a statement to those in Mexico, it sent a message to Donald Trump as well. Trump was not at all pleased with Pope Francis’s trip to Mexico, and he did not hesitate to respond.

“I don’t think he understands the danger of the open border that we have with Mexico,” said Trump

To Trump, the visit to Mexico, was a danger. He believes that Francis’s trip to Mexico was dangerous and unnecessary. As the man who cares the most about seeing everyone through God’s eyes, Pope Francis explained that his visit was most necessary and appropriate. He mentioned people should be building bridges, not walls.

“I think Mexico got him to do it because they want to keep the border just the way it is. They’re making a fortune, and we’re losing,” Trump retorted.

“Thank God he said I am a political man. Because Aristotle defines a human being as a political animal: At least I am a human being. Am I a pawn? Well maybe. I will leave that up to your judgment. And a person who only thinks about making wall, wherever it may be, and not building bridges, is not a Christian,” Pope Francis said in a response.

Like Trump, the Pope does not speak without a purpose. He speaks when needed, about important things needing to be addressed. Trump fights for a prize, but Francis fights for the poor.

Pope Francis’s Trip to Mexico wasn’t only to speak to them, but to open eyes to America that we should not be deporting people, or building walls. He says we are all made equal, equally loved, all by God. He wants us to be more understanding and welcome those in need with open arms, like a good christian should.

“For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful. … No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith. They are using the Pope as a pawn, and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so, especially when so many lives are involved and when illegal immigration is so rampant,.” Trump stated.

Trump may have gotten in the last word, but Pope Francis is transformational in the church, just as Trump is in politics. And so, the Presidential race just continues to get more and more bizarre.
