Two earthquakes rock Italy to the core

On Wednesday, two tremendous earthquakes struck central Italy, followed by several small aftershocks. The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.5, hit a large area two miles north of the town of Visso. A few hours later, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1, rocked the same region. There have been no reports of injuries yet, but damage devastated Visso and a neighboring town, Campi. A fifteenth century church, San Salvatore, was destroyed during the two earth-shattering quakes. In Campi, hundreds of people were sleeping in their cars, fearing another tremor might strike them.

Tragedy in Dreamworld

In Queensland, Australia on Tuesday, four people were killed when a log flume ride malfunctioned. Six people were riding on the “flume” when it flipped over after it came into contact with another carriage. It tossed the passengers onto a conveyor belt, trapping them in the machinery. Two children, ages 10 and 12, were able to escape but were left extremely traumatized. The four victims of the malfunction unfortunately did not share the same fate and were pronounced dead after the incident. Dreamworld, the park in which this tragic accident occurred, is currently closed.

ISIS takes thousands as human shields

The terrorist organization carried out mass killings near the city of Mosul of Iraq on Wednesday, executing 232 people, 190 of which were former Iraqi security forces refusing to join with them. Since October 17th, ISIS has been taking tens of thousands of people from Mosul and using them as human shields against the Iraqi forces. ISIS has used the same tactic before in previous battles, such as in Falluja in June. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Hussein, warned last week that members of ISIS appeared to be using civilians in and around Mosul as “human shields”.

Donald Trump on cancelling the election

During a rally in Toledo, Ohio on Thursday, Trump said that he’d like to “cancel the election” and be declared the automatic winner. He also stated, “Just thinking to myself right now, we should just cancel the election and just give it to Trump.”  The candidate previously declared the election is “rigged” and warned his supporters that his presidency could be stolen from them due to voter fraud – an extremely rare occurrence. Currently, Trump is right behind Clinton in the national tracking polls and in the key battleground states.
