Google takes big stride in tech race

Every year, our technologically driven generation continues to create more and more hi- tech electronics. Just when we think Apple, Microsoft, or Samsung has created an extraordinary gadget that can’t be beat or improved, they seem to always be able to advance and improve their technology creations and even develop new, more complex and sophisticated electronics that can make our daily lives easier and more enjoyable.

One of the latest developments in the technological field is from the multinational corporation of Google. On January 16th, 2014, Google posted on their blog that they were introducing a smart contact lens project. The prototype for this project is focused on benefiting diabetes patients. It is designed to be a much easier alternative to finger pricking to determine a diabetes patient’s blood sugar levels. This invention is also a potential solution to the lack of consistent continual monitoring of blood sugar by people with diabetes. These lenses were constructed in such a way that they are able to read and monitor a person’s blood sugar levels every second through the tears in their eye.

These fascinating lenses, as Google has reported, are made up of microscopic chips and sensors, as well as antennae that are thinner than the hairs on human skin. As of right now, Google is endeavoring to insert LED lights into the smart contact lenses that will flash, alerting the diabetic when his or her blood sugar levels are either too low or too high. The company is still continuing to work on and refine this incredible development through testing and research and is also discussing the prototype with the FDA.

Although not a completely finished product, Google’s smart contact lenses are definitely getting much positive feedback from the public. Google’s introduction of their project idea and prototype has blown people away and made them very excited and intrigued by the prospect of this amazing invention one day hitting the market and being up for use by people as well as immensely benefiting diabetic patients.
