The Cardinal; more than just a bird

A cardinal might seem like it’s just a little red bird, but for many people, it has a much deeper meaning to life. Cardinals have many different meanings, but they are often recognized as spiritual beings.

“In the Christian context, both the blood of Jesus and cardinals are used as the symbols of vitality, and that vitality is everlasting. Scripture clearly says ‘By His blood, we are freed from sin to serve the living God, to glorify Him, and to enjoy Him forever.’ Red cardinals represent life, hope, and restoration.”1

It is said that cardinals visit people during both difficult times in their lives or times of celebration. If you have a cardinal lurking around your house, it could mean someone who has passed away is paying you a visit.

If a cardinal visits you  in your dreams, it has a different meaning than if you see one in real life. Cardinals in dreams send messages of confidence. They’re trying to tell you to be who you really are and stop pretending to be someone you’re not.

For years, people have been sharing their own stories about cardinals. I recently had my own experience with a cardinal.

When I was at my grandparents’ house the other day for my grandpa’s birthday, we were eating dinner in their dining room. Their dining room has several windows nearby. In the middle of our meal we heard something banging on the window, it was a cardinal. As soon as we looked at it, it flew away. Just minutes later, we heard the noise again and it was the same cardinal back again. This hasn’t happened to me before, but to my grandparents, it’s a weekly occurrence.

It was as if the cardinal was trying to tell us something. It could have been many different things. Last year, my great-grandmother passed away. Ever since, some of my closest family members have seen cardinals around their houses when in the past they didn’t.

This was the only time I saw a cardinal act out in this way. Other times, when I went over to my grandparents’ house I’ve seen a cardinal, but it was just sitting in a tree minding its own business. Many people, including my family, believe in the cardinal’s meaning.

Have you ever had this type of experience with a cardinal? If so, what do you think it was trying to tell you?
