Safe Schools Coordinator, Ray Wilson, spearheads Workers Safety Committee

Knight Crier

Hello,

My name is Ray Wilson and I am the Safe Schools Coordinator for North Penn School District.  One of my responsibilities is the Chairman of the Workers Safety Committee for the District.  This committee has been around for a long time and plays a very important role in the safety of our staff and students.  The Workers Safety Committee is required by State Law and we are governed by our insurance consortium SDIC (School Districts Insurance Consortium).

You might ask, what does the Workers Safety Committee do?  Below are some little known facts about your District Committee and our goals:

  • The workers safety committee is made up of a cross section of District employees who review employee claims and injury reports
  • Evaluate employer’s safety/health policies and procedures
  • Review corrective action taken by management
  • Hold monthly meetings
  • Review employee input on safety issues
  • Written agenda on all meetings and distributed to safety committee members
  • Report accidents and near misses
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions for improvement of safety
  • Receive discount on our District Workers Comp InsuranceFUTURE GOALS OF COMMITTEE
  • Establish procedures for workplace inspections to identify safety and health hazards
  • Appoint inspection team to investigate accidents
  • Conduct workplace inspections
  • Make written reports on hazards discovered during inspections
  • Review corrective measures and make written recommendations to correct hazards.Several years ago the Workers Safety Committee had a workplace safety poster contest in the district and we received over 100 entries. We picked several winners and they we’re awarded recognition certificates and gift certificates to Borders Books. Below is a list of the current committee members:
  • I would like to thank the members of the Workers Safety for taking the time out of their busy schedules to attend meetings to make our schools safer for our students and staff.
  • We took two of the posters and they we’re reproduced and distributed to all the schools to be posted in prominent locations. We we’re very proud of this project and the posters are still prominently displayed in many of our schools.
