Enjoy Greek Cuisine at Zorba’s Opa

Enjoy Greek Cuisine at Zorbas Opa

HATFIELD-Zorba’s Opa, a restaurant serving Greek cuisine, is Route 309’s hidden gem. If you are brave enough to navigate the road amidst rush hour chaos, Opa will reward you with a uniquely flavorful and filling meal for a very reasonable price.

Although 2501 Bethlehem Pike may not be the most ideal location, Opa compensates with service and quality.  Customers have the option of ordering by phone or dining in. The carry out option is quick, more so than any pizza place or Chinese restaurant as my order was ready for pick up in less than ten minutes.

As for the food, Opa offers a wide variety of distinctive Greek dishes.    The restaurant is well renowned for both its hot and cold appetizers. The tzatziki (a yogurt, cucumber, and garlic dip), as well as the hummus dip are equally delicious and each only $5.75.  Both of the dips’ fresh ingredients and unusually tasty balance of flavors are the perfect way to preface a meal.

I ordered the chicken gyro platter ($11.95), which is a warm pita stuffed with grilled chicken, lettuce, fresh tomato, and tzatziki sauce.  I could not find a single fault; the sauce was creamy, the lettuce and tomato were fresh, and the chicken was juicy and tangy. Even the pita was incredible; It was perfectly soft and warm with just the right amount of piquancy to complement the other ingredients.   The gyro platter is also available with lamb, beef, or pork. For those who prefer fish, the Mediterranean seafood platter ($19.50) is a giant-sized medley including shrimp, scallops, mussels, and calamari.  The seafood is served in ouzo and wine tomato sauce, along with your choice of spaghetti or rice.  Other dinner options include the stuffed grape leaves, veggie platter, and Pastitsio (a pasta dish).  All entrées are served with Opa’s homemade Greek potato wedges.

Additionally, The Zorba’s lunch menu offering smaller portions and reduced prices is available from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m on weekdays.  Desserts after a lunch or a dinner are $4.95 each and include baklava, Greek yogurt served with honey and nuts, and galagtgobureko (a custard).

All in all, the distinctive flavors and quick service make Zorba’s Opa deserving of four out of five stars. It’s a perfect addition to the list of your favorite take-out places…well worth the trek down 309.
