At North Penn High School, leadership isn\u2019t just about titles. It\u2019s about consistency, and impact. For one senior student-athlete in particular, those qualities show up daily on and off the field and court. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a senior here at North Penn\u201d Smink said.\u00a0 \u201cI was a captain on the field hockey team this year and the basketball team for two years. I\u2019m also a captain on the softball team as well.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Her high school career at North Penn has been filled with unforgettable moments, which she gave her credit to the teams she has been on. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor softball, my favorite memory, was winning the state championship with my sister my freshman year. It was just a cool experience,\u201d Smink said.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cFor basketball my favorite memory was during the state playoffs we had a buzzer beater win. It was really far away and so we had a fun bus ride home.\u201d Smink explained.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cAs for Field Hockey my favorite memory has to be from this year, our Alex Ominade Cancer Game there was just so much support,\u201d Smink said. \u201cIt was a good fun game, but we were also playing for a cause.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Her experience at North Penn has not only been about sports. She also values the people she met in the classroom.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cMy favorite teacher has to be my government teacher, Mr. Roberts. He was just very connected to everyone and always wanted to know how you were doing on a personal level,\u201d Smink explained. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t always about how you did on tests.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Outside of school, her biggest inspiration seemed to be the ones she spent most of her time with.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cI look up to my sister a lot,\u201d said Smink. \u201cI\u2019ve always followed in her footsteps. I just feel like I\u2019ve always wanted to be like her.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Next year, Tallie plans to take her academic and athletic talents to Shippensburg University, where she plans to continue playing softball.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cI am looking forward to playing with my former North Penn teammates. I\u2019m excited to play with them again,\u201d Smink said. \u201cI got to play with them before, so I am excited to go far in the season with them.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>One of the toughest things athletes struggle with is balance between sports, school, and social life have always been one of the biggest challenges, but also it is something you can build open.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cPlaying sports all year round helps you balance,\u201d Smink explained. \u201cYou\u2019re getting home late, so you have to manage your time just knowing what you have to accomplish that night.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>As a captain on the top-ranked softball team in Pennsylvania, she focuses on mindset as much as performance.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cYou kind of just have to have a next play mentality,\u201d Smink\u00a0 said. \u201cBeing number one in the state is a really good honor, but our team is very humble we don\u2019t brag about it.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Even beyond athletics, she\u2019s helped shape school heritage.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>\u201cI run the student section account with two other people,\u201d Smink said. \u201cIt was definitely difficult at times but it was fun because you got to pick theme for the game.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>A message Smink seemed to say is that \u201cIt\u2019s just about managing your time and doing what you need to do.\u201d And through that mindset, she\u2019s not only succeeded at North Penn, but definitely showed the efforts of balancing leadership, academics, and confidence.<\/span>
