{"id":45261,"date":"2024-12-11T08:23:35","date_gmt":"2024-12-11T12:23:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.knightcrier.org\/?p=45261"},"modified":"2024-12-17T09:44:57","modified_gmt":"2024-12-17T13:44:57","slug":"knights-knock-off-unionville-for-first-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.knightcrier.org\/sports\/2024\/12\/11\/knights-knock-off-unionville-for-first-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Knights knock off Unionville for first win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TOWAMENCIN-The North Penn Knights picked up that all important first win of the season Tuesday night.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The girls hoops squad knocked off the Unionville Longhorns with a hefty 20 point win, 47-27.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After their first two games of the season resulted in losses, the girls were able to come back and kept the lead for all four quarters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe definitely played as a team, which is something we\u2019ve been lacking,\u201d head coach Bri Cullen said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The girls were able to put pressure early on with a 9 point lead by the end of the first quarter, and started to completely pull away by the third. Points were fairly evenly distributed amongst players, with 11 girls finding the basket.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While this game was a triumph, the season started off a bit bumpy due to absence of some key players. Last year the team lost vital seniors Caleigh Sperling, Liv Stone, and Kelly Donnelly, and this season has been a chance for some of the younger players to improve their skills.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019re learning. This is a whole new team this year that we have to make so we\u2019re changing a lot of things in defense and offense,\u201d added Assistant Coach Kelly Secoda. \u201cAll the younger ones are coming up and really putting some pressure on the older ones for playing time.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the game started off a bit slow, things started to heat up in the second half, as the Knights\u2019 capitalized on Unionville\u2019s numerous turnovers, and their shooting efficiency improved. They have a pretty big team, so we kind of packed the pain a little bit more, which was good,\u201d Cullen noted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spearheading the defense was captain and senior Leah Mikulski, while sophomore Lily Brown commanded the court and scored a 3-pointer in the 4th quarter.
