The North Penn Student Government Association distributed papers asking students to tell how they’ve been affected by cancer. The results were put together as a mural in the lobby for all to see. North Penn is set to host its first ever Mini-Thon on April 22nd, 2016.

On April 22, 2016, the North Penn High School Student Government Association (SGA) is throwing North Penn’s first Mini-Thon that is sure to get every student boogying on down for a great cause.

Students are invited to come out to participate in a twelve hour night of dancing, fun, and North Penn spirit. The Mini-Thon will start on April 22, 2016 at 6 p.m and conclude on April 23, 2016 at 6 a.m.

The dance thon is not only a way to show off those perfected dance moves, but it’s also a great opportunity to create sweet high school memories while raising money for the Four Diamonds Fund.

The Four Diamonds Fund was established to help families dealing with childhood cancer. The pillars of Four Diamonds are courage, honesty, wisdom, and strength, which are all virtues embodied throughout the North Penn community. Because of the familiarity, North Penn is fully capable of helping others achieve those virtues.

“To me, Mini-Thon represents the opportunity for those who are lucky enough to be able to give back to give back,” said SGA President Katie Solomon. “Those fighting cancer and their families never asked for the disease in their life and this is the least we can do to help them. I can’t emphasize enough how huge it is for the Four Diamonds families to be able to leave the hospital without medical bills and to know that a cure is just over the horizon.”

With a school the size of North Penn, the Mini-Thon is sure to attract a lot of students as volunteers and participants.

“One of the advantages of going to a school this size is when you have three thousand young people in a building it’s remarkable what they can accomplish if they work together on something,” said North Penn Activities Director and SGA advisor, Kyle Berger. “This event is something that should bring us all together because we rally around that one cause and we can get family, friends, and relatives on board to help donate money. You can sign up and then you could probably by the end of this weekend have a hundred dollars donated to this. It’s that easy. Overall it’s just a fun event.”

Whether a professional dancer or a one-two-stepper, anyone can come out to make a difference in someone’s life simply by having fun. The Mini-Thon will have a lasting impact on not only the families being supported, but also the North Penn community.

“Four Diamonds does amazing work every single day and I hope that everyone interested in joining their cause and the fight against pediatric cancer will get involved,” said Solomon.

To participate, students can sign up during lunches on Wednesday, November 4th through Wednesday, November 11th. There will be a $15 registration fee. By signing up, one is pledging to raise at least $40 for the Four Diamonds Fund by the Mini-Thon. Each student participating will have their own website that can be used to accept donations and track their progress up until the day of the event.

On November 11th, there will be a general informational meeting right after school in A33 and again at 7 p.m. in the auditorium for anyone who signed up.

Any student interested in being on the leadership team to help with budgeting, securing vendors and planning the event should attend a meeting November 4th after school.
