TOWAMENCIN – Sophmore Ida Berger from Aalen, Germany is just one out of the forty exchange students visiting NPHS for two weeks.

“I have never been to another foreign country before.” Berger stated as she chronicled here experiences in America.

Although, Berger is from the foreign country the English language is definitely not foreign to her. Her school made it mandatory for her to start taking English since the fifth grade. Now, Ida has no problem communicating with NPHS students and teachers.

“[There are] so many words that[look like they] mean the same but still mean different things [The English language has] slight differences and different variations,” explained Berger.

Berger has had some difficulty in dealing with the size of North Penn High School compared to her high school Schubart Gymnasium with NPHS,
“It is easier to find my way in my school. Also, my school was much smaller,” she said.

While spending time in America Berger visited various different places such as Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York. In fact, she loved spending time with her host sister and friends at Dorney Park.

Also, she mentioned she got to try her first store bought cupcakes in America.
“I guess if I ate more I’d get addicted to them!” Berger admitted.

Back at home Ida is the third and youngest child in her family. She has one older brother and sister who have already completed high school. She thoroughly enjoys reading fantasy novels in her spare time. Fascinatingly, she happens to big fan of the Harry Potter series like many of us.

Berger says that she would gladly recommend the exchange program to her peers.
“It is interesting and an adventure,” Berger reflected.
Like many young people, Ida is driven by her passions and fascinations to leave home so that she can learn firsthand about a foreign country.
