Washington, D.C. – History books and novels interpret the story, but primary source documents show the story. Recently a contingent of North Penn High School students had the opportunity to travel through our world’s history as the went back in time through the news.
89 11th grade AP English students boarded Hagey buses at 6:30 am bound for the Newseum in Washington, D.C. this past Tuesday, April 22. to celebrate our countries first amendment: freedom of speech.
The newseum is the museum of news that showcases highlights of the reporting and journalism world from the beginning of the printing press. Students read their way through history. Newseum highlights include a section of the Berlin Wall and a watchtower, a news helicopter suspended over the lobby, and three stories of front pages of newspapers from around the world on Wednesday, September 12, 2001. Additionally, the Newsuem also featured the door from the Watergate Hotel, news artifacts from famous journalists including Mark Twain’s pipe and the writers notebooks of Tim Russet and Barbara Walters, and even Walter Cronkite’s famous blazer.
