A cappella talent takes first at Talent Show

TOWAMENCIN – Talent and expertise filled the stage at North Penn High School’s annual Talent Show on Friday night. Hosted by SGA President Pat Zancolli and SGA Vice-President Colleen McGovern, the night held the promise of a wide variety of great talent.

The SGA Cabinet was behind the selection process, and narrowing down the acts to only fourteen proved a difficult feat. “This year we had an extremely large and talented field that auditioned, so the selection process was extremely difficult,” commented McGovern.

Singers, instrumentalists, and dancers made up the bulk of the show. Stellar vocal performances to songs like “I’ll Follow You Into the Dark” and “I Found a Boy” continued to impress audiences. Squad Six’s original dance routine included impressive tricks, and the KACS Crew showed off their breakdancing skills during their performance.

Many acts were accompanied by instruments, but some acts let their instruments do all the talking. 12-Pack of Oreos, or Paul Baik, Neil Gob, and Erik An, played a medley of popular songs on violin, guitar, and cello. Jason Blocklove played “Drifting” on his guitar, but used the instrument to beat out percussion as well.

SGA continued the Viewer’s Choice aspect of the talent show, choosing three acts to compete for the most views on YouTube.  With almost 5000 views between all three videos, Tina Kinsey was chosen as the winner of Viewer’s Choice and performed “Lovesong” by The Cure in the second act.

The final group of the night, White Noise, comprised of five students singing Pentatonix’s “Daft Punk” medley, an a cappella arrangement comprised of a percussion beatboxer, bass voice, and three inner voices to take melody and harmonize. Vincent Recco, Anthony Cubbage, Chelsea Aubert, Jacob Gallo, and Kristina Stidham performed their way to the top tier, winning the first place title and a $200 VISA gift card.

“It feels awesome. There is so much other great talent that was on stage tonight. To be recognized in comparison to all of the other acts is a great feeling,” commented Stidham as she and her group celebrated the win with friends and supporters.

The KASC Crew won third place, and 12-Pack of Oreos won second place, each winning a gift card as well.

McGovern couldn’t be happier with the Talent Show: “We are ecstatic with the outcome of this event. Around 600 people attended the Talent Show this year which is a sharp increase compared to previous years.”

The North Penn Talent Show showcased an exemplary array of talents, thoroughly entertaining the audience throughout the entire night.
