Young Cross Country team ready to hit the ground running

TOWAMENCIN – With the team full of seniors last year, the cross country team struggled with injuries. However, with bright performances from Shaun Collins who ran terrific at the District Championship and States, the Knights finished the season strong. Even though over half of the team from previous season has graduated, with many young strong, runners, they hoped to continue their success into this season.

Head Coach: Mike Werner (7th year coaching at NP)

Last Season’s Record: 5-1 (5-1 in Conf.)

Key Losses: Shaun Collins, Michael Cooney, Ryan Tung

Key Players: Alex Davis (S), Zach Thomas (J), Hank Hoffman (J), Collin Grace (So)

Coach’s Quote: “This is a young team in the best conference in the state with the best runner in the state, so I would say it’s going to be baptism by fire and they’re going to be thrown right into challenge. But if we take one game at a time and learn from previous games, I think we will be fine to challenge for District Championship and hopefully States as well.

Key Player Alex Davis’s Quote: “This is a young team with tons of potential. While we are not as experienced as last year’s team, we have enough quality runners here to reach success.”
