College Review: Capital University

Many do not know the superstitions behind the Capital University arch that ushers outsiders onto the campus. If a student walks out through the archway before they have graduated the myth is that they will not graduate on time, but if a couple walks through the Capital gates holding hands they will get married. There are many superstitions on the small campus home to 3,628 current students including the test failing seal and the monk statue that gives good luck and is supposed to help lost items be found. While the college is very small, this offers many benefits compared to any larger college. The faculty and staff honestly care about students and want them to achieve greatness, while most colleges view students as just a number and have no personal relationships with them. The small campus offers many common services as other universities free of charge such as gym use, tutoring, and to vast surprise laundry machines.

Beyond the campus and into the classroom Capital University boasts a 12:1 student to teacher ratio that shows off their dedication to small classroom connection. While Capital University is a liberal arts and research college known for its music program, the education and nursing programs are also renowned. Along with impressive academics and small town campus in Bexley, Ohio another core belief of Capital University is the expectation that every student would be involved in the community. Many volunteer groups are based at Capital such as the newly started program that helps children in the community learn to read and the Ladies of Distinction Mentorship Program where Capital University students partner alongside middle school students. Other projects include Saturday Service that transports students several times a month to various places to volunteer, Alternative Spring Breaks where students can take an international trip to volunteer in other countries, and Crusader Day of Service, an end of year celebration of community service where multiple community service projects are happening at once.

Overall Capital University’s small town atmosphere and excellent academics offer a safe environment while encouraging students to branch out in the world around them now and in the future.
