Editorial: Women’s March Top 5
On Friday, January 20th the nation swore in President Trump to serve as the 45th President of the United States. With Women’s Marches occurring around the world the next day, Knight Crier Staff Writer Anissa Gardizy attended the Women’s March in Washington, D.C. In her following opinion piece, she highlights a Top 5 of the march from her experience, outlining some moments that stuck out to her.

Top 4 Chants
In a personal jab at Trump’s complexion, protesters rubbed salt in the wound by clarifying he did not win the popular vote.
“You’re orange. You’re gross. You lost the popular vote!”
In a humorous chant about why Trump shouldn’t build a wall, people used one of his insecurities against him.
“You can’t build a wall! You’re hands are too small!”
One of the major reasons that women came to D.C was to advocate for female reproductive rights. Hence, one of the most heard chants of the day reinforced that idea.
“My body. My choice!”
Whether you are an uptight conservative, or latte drinking liberal, it is agreed across the board that disagreement is good because disagreement is the foundation of a democracy. Marchers in D.C were aware of how their actions were reflections of our nation’s political foundation at work.
“Call: Show me what democracy looks like! Answer: this is what democracy looks like!”
Top 3 Funny Moments
Some people wanted to sit along a ledge at the Hirshhorn Museum, but in order to do so, they had to climb through thick shrubbery. Their attempts were enjoyed by the crowd below who spotted moving bushes and stuck individuals.
For those who opted out of the brush crawling, many resorted to tree climbing to get a better angle of the action. Luckily, with the crowd of people below the tree climbers, no one was in any serious danger of falling.
While the march was centered around removing the obstacles many women face, during the march, all women had to face a tangible one: a chain fence. Luckily, people were more than happy to help one another over these roadblocks on the way to the White House.
Top 2 Poster Places
By the end of the march, if you were carrying a poster, you probably wanted to get rid of it because your arms were tired. A majority of marchers joined in leaving Trump a house warming gift of hundreds of thousands of posters outside of the White House.
If you didn’t leave your poster at the White House, many left theirs at other government buildings in the area to make their statement.
Top 1 Trending Item
The march may have unknowingly started a new trend: clear backpacks. The Women’s March Organization had stated that bags only clear bags were allowed for safety purposes. I’m not sure if the trend will stick around, but if it does, we will know where it started.
