New options abound in 2015-2016 course selection!

LANSDALE- A couple years ago, NPHS initiated the no-school period 1 or 8 option for seniors. Because this opportunity isn’t possible for all students, NPHS has decided to experiment with an additional scheduling option that students can request to participate in for the 2015-2016 school year: no-school periods 2-7.

Montgomerie Weitzel, a sophomore involved with sports at North Penn High School, explained that she believes such an option will be beneficial and a portion of NPHS’ students will find it convenient.

“I am very involved at North Penn, so that takes up a huge amount of my time and makes it hard to do all of my homework and study,” said Weitzel. “I think that the no-school periods 2-7 will really help the students who are heavily involved with extracurricular activities. I know a bunch of kids who are already changing their courses so they can be enrolled in it. They’re really excited because they’ll be able to go home during the day to do work and go back to sleep.”

The topic of getting enough sleep seems to be why most students are taking advantage of the opportunity. Removing periods 2-7 will not only eliminate a significant amount of homework and studying from students’ schedules, but also present them with more time to sleep. Such an opportunity will prove to have positive impacts, since many students currently fall asleep in class as a result of excessive amounts of work and activities.
