NPHS to teach innovative hands-only CPR technique to entire sophomore class

LANSDALE – The North Penn School District is proud to introduce a new program which teaches students in 10th grade at North Penn High School how to perform “Hands-Only” cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) this Tuesday, November 29 and Wednesday, November 30 in the NPHS auditorium.

Following a presentation by the American Heart Association about this new technique seen by Dr. Curt Dietrich, Superintendent of the NPSD, he introduced the idea of incorporating it into our 10th grade students’ Health curriculum which focuses on emergency situations and decision making. Curriculum Coordinators along with Health and Physical Education teachers were immediately on board, and so began the journey to bringing this program to life at NPHS.

According to the American Heart Association, Hands-Only CPR can save lives. Most people who experience cardiac arrest at home, work or in a public location die because they don’t receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene, which can double or even triple a person’s chances of survival.

NPHS Health teachers received training to effectively use and teach this new technique to the entire sophomore class at NPHS. The first day of the program on Tuesday, November 29th will serve as an informational day for students to learn about the instructional basics of Hands-Only CPR along with why it’s used, when to use it and other statistical information. On Wednesday, November 30th students will reconvene with their health classes in the auditorium to practice this new technique on mannequins.

The NPSD invites local press to observe this innovative new program on Wednesday, November 30th from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in the auditorium at NPHS, located at 1340 Valley Forge Rd. in Lansdale. NPSD media representatives will be present to take photos and would be happy to share photos with local media for publication.
