Out of the 1.6 million students who took the PSAT qualifying exam in October 2015, 16,000 are named semi-finalists in the country. Selected semifinalists represent less than one percent of high school seniors in the country. These academically talented high school seniors will now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for more than 7,500 available National Merit Scholarships worth more than $33 million. These students were selected based on the ability to show exceptional academic talent and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

The National Merit Scholarship Award recipients will be honored at a breakfast in late October. The date is yet to be announced. The North Penn School District is still waiting for this year’s list of commended recipients, which is scheduled to be released later this month. Once the district is informed, these additional student names will be announced as well.
