LANSDALE – The North Penn School District is proud to announce that 17 North Penn High School (NPHS) students have received awards for their impressive performance on the National Greek Exam administered in March 2015, sponsored by the American Classical League.

Thanks to the 9th period schedule, the support of  NPHS principal Burton T. Hynes and the efforts of World Languages Department Chair Anita Sapalidis, a growing number NPHS students have opted over the last few years to informally study Ancient Greek..

In an effort to provide focus and incentive to the students involved in this voluntary informal study, students are expected to participate in the National Greek Exam. The exam is offered at several levels. This year, NPHS students participated in the Introductory, Beginning and Intermediate levels. Awards are designated in ascending order from Green (top 70%), through Red and Blue (80-90% range), to the highest honor, Purple, which designates a perfect score.

While performance on this exam has continuously proven to be commendable in years past, this year’s results have exceptjonal. The 17 NPHS students who received awards are as follows:

Green: Nicholas Pleim (Intro, ‘15), Zachary Lavalla (Intro, ‘17), Bryce Hambach (Intro, ‘17); Robert Sabanas (Beginning, ‘15), Lisa Giang (Beginning, ‘16), Alexander Dogonnuick (Beginning, ‘15), Marc Briefer (Beginning, ‘16); Alexander Medoff (Intermediate, ‘15), Serena Jiang (Intermediate, ‘15), Michael Cha (Intermediate, ‘15), Jerry Zhao (Intermediate, ‘15)
