ABC’s new drama, Secrets and Lies, is leaving crime fans on the edge of their seats every time. The series premiered on March 1st 2015 and it’s expected to run 10 episodes. It airs on Sundays at 9.00 p.m. and Eastern 8:00 p.m. Central.

The show revolves around the life of a family man, Ben Crawford, played by Mathew Ryan Phillippe. His life spirals downwards when he takes a morning run and discovers, Tom Hawks, his neighbor’s five year old son in the woods. Overwhelmed with fear, he sprints towards his neighborhood screaming for, “help.” Within minutes of the police arriving, the tables turn and Crawford turns into the prime suspect.

He has limited memory to help him justify his accusations. He recalls leaving home late at night after having a stressful argument with his wife Christy, played by KaDee Strickland. He came back home in the early hours of the morning after drinking. As far as that, he can’t seem to remember anything else.

Having been good friends with the boy’s family for years, Crawford claims he had “no reason” to murder Hawks. Seeming to assert a very fatherly protection over his own family, it’s hard to tell if he had anything to do with the crime. Nevertheless, Ben is highly driven to find the real killer and absolve himself from his accusations.

If you think that being the anathema of your town is grief alone, having Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis) looking over your shoulder is much worse. She’s the top Homicide Detective for the Charlotte Mecklenberg County Police Department and she turns out to be quite the stickler. She refers back to her previous murder cases telling Crawford, “We don’t stop. I don’t stop.” Like the rest of the town, she believes that Crawford killed Hawks.

With the media waiting outside Crawford’s house and brand new information making the top headlines, his family’s life and his reputation are put jeopardy. As more secrets come out, it brings the audience one step closer to the truth.

Overall, ABC’s Secrets and Lies has kept its audience in suspense with its intriguing plot and its motley of characters. The show earned a 7.5/10 on IMDb and a 7.6/10 on Tv.com. So if you missed some of the episodes that everyone’s talking about, you can catch up with them on abc.com.
